Course Aim

This course offers holders of a QQI Level 5 health related award or a QQI social studies/youthwork award the opportunity to undertake further studies in advanced health and social studies. This award will equip the learner with the necessary knowledge, skills and competence to undertake roles in social care, youthwork area and healthcare environments.

This award will equip the learner with the necessary competence to undertake roles in the community, caring or social care environment. Social care workers plan and provide professional care to vulnerable individuals and groups of all ages who experience marginalisation, disadvantage or special needs. This course equips participants with the skills to manage themselves, their work and the people they work with more effectively. The award will be of benefit to those who have an interest in the understanding of the many roles of a social care worker and models of social care provision. The course introduces students to counselling skills, with an emphasis on reflection and self-awareness.

 

According to an Irish Government review in 2018, “continuing demographic change will inevitably lead to increased demand for health and social care”. The need for skilled social care practitioner will increase as Irelands populations continues to change.

Fee Exemptions

The following categories of participant are exempt from paying the PLC Government Levy:

  • Medical Card/SUSI Grant/Back to Education Allowance Holders may be exempted from PLC Government Levy. Documentary Evidence must be presented immediately to avail of such exemptions.

  • Medical Card/Back to Education Allowance Holders may be exempted from QQI Exam Fees. Documentary Evidence must be presented immediately to avail of such exemptions.

Fee Payments

All fees must be paid online with a Credit/Debit card in advance of course commencement on 7th September 2020. Fees are subject to change.
