Course Aim

This one year course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and competence to work as a supervisor in an Early Childhood Care and Education environment. 

Work Experience

Students will spend one day a week and four full weeks working in Creches, excellent places to gain practical childcare experience; information gathered on work experience will be used in the completion of a number of assignments.

Career Opportunities & Progression Routes

This award will qualify learners to work as supervisors in Crèches, Playgroups and Pre-Schools; it also complies with the new requirements for employment under the ECCE Free Preschool Scheme.  It provides qualifications necessary to obtain a place in higher education. It could also act as an excellent basis for learners who wish to set up their own childcare facility. 

Entry Requirements

Applications are invited from those who have a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Education or any other QQI Level 5 Award; selection is by interview.

Fees

 

Student Services: €200.00 this includes a non-refundable deposit, refer Note 1 hereunder

PPC (Gov Levy) €200.00*( Exemptions may apply refer Note 2 hereunder)

Examination fees: QQI Level 5 €50 QQI Level 6 €60

Registration charges by professional bodies - These will be outlined under Additional fees for applicable courses. 

Additional costs which may include: Books, Uniforms, /Clothing and Equipment (e.g. Chefs Knives etc.)

Note 1: A non-refundable deposit of €50 to reserve a place on a PLC course.

Note 2: The following categories of participant are exempt from paying the contribution:

  • Full medical Card holders in their own right and their dependent children
  • Those who are eligible under the student grant scheme
  • Those in receipt of the Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) OR Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) ALLOWANCE.
